DROID Turbo Unveiled By Verizon With Incredible Specs

Verizon just announced the incredibly powerful DROID Turbo during a press event in New York City, and it packs a ton of high-end specs that should please even the most demanding smartphone enthusiast.

The DROID Turbo runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat instead of the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, but you’ll find a Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz under the hood, 3GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, a 5.3-inch display with a 2560 x 1440-pixel resolution (565ppi), a huge 3,900mAh battery that promises up to 48 hours of battery life, support for Cat. 4 LTE, a 21-megapixel camera capable of recording 4K video, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band Wi-Fi support and more.

Depending on the model you buy, you’ll find that the DROID Turbo body is either made out of ballistic nylon or metalized glass fiber reinforced with DuPont Kevlar, Verizon said, and the display features Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Verizon said it will replace the display once in a two-year time period for free, in case you run into any damage along the way. Also, the body of the DROID Turbo features a water-repellent nanocoating. That doesn’t mean you can take it for a dunk in the pool, but should survive an accidental spill.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is Proud to be Gay, Hopes his openness can help others.

Timothy D. Cook, Apple's chief executive, said he was "proud to be gay" in an essay published early Thursday, becoming by far the most prominent executive of a public company to come out.

"Let me be clear: I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me," Cook wrote in the essay, published by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Cook, 53, has never spoken publicly about his sexual orientation in the many years he has worked in the spotlight at Apple.

In his essay, Cook also noted that he had spent much of his life trying to keep his personal matters private, which is why he had not previously spoken in public about his sexual orientation.

HTC Desire Eye With 13-Megapixel Front-Facing Camera Launched

HTC DESIRE EYE- The King Of SELFIES

HTC on Wednesday launched the Desire Eye in a bid to cash in on the popular selfie trend in the market. Apart from being an AT&T-exclusive at launch, no pricing and availability details have yet been mentioned.

The HTC Desire Eye selfie-focused smartphone boasts of a front-facing camera with the same treatment as the rear camera. Both feature 13-megapixel sensors, and are both accompanied by dual-LED flash.

It is worth noting that the Android 4.4 KitKat-based HTC Desire Eye is one of the only smartphones with such a high resolution front-facing camera. HTC Desire Eye also features an IPX7 rating, designed to resist immersion in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.

Both the front-facing and rear cameras can shoot 1080p@30fps videos. While the rear camera features a f/2.0 aperture and a 28mm lens, the front-facing camera features a f/2.2 aperture with a 20mm lens.

Two camera centric apps namely Eye Experience and the latest version of HTC Zoe, a video editing tool, has been introduced in the HTC Desire Eye. The Zoe additionally integrates with the new HTC RE camera. The video-editing app will roll out to other Android and iOS smartphones later this year.

Certain camera features like Split Capture, Crop-Me-In and others are also available on the HTC Desire Eye. While the Split Capture divides the image 50/50 between front and rear cameras, the Crop-Me-In feature crops the user's image and superimposes it on the image shot by the rear camera.

As for other specifications, the HTC Desire Eye boasts of a 5.2-inch full-HD LCD display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor; 2GB of RAM; 16GB of inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card (upto 128GB), and a 2400mAh Li-Po battery.

Front-facing stereo speakers powered by HTC Boomsound technology are also onboard the handset. It measures in at 151.7x73.8x8.5mm.

iOS 8 adoption slows following broken updates

Apple has updated its App Store to show new statistics for iOS 8, its new mobile operating system. It's not looking good.
9to5Mac reports that iOS 8 adoption has only increased by 1% since the last time Apple published statistics on the operating system. To make things worse, the statistic that Apple published on its developer site excludes a large amount of users who are known to be slow in updating to the latest operating system.

Since September 21, the percentage of mobile devices visiting the App Store running iOS 8 has only changed from 46% to 47%.

The slow adoption of iOS 8 could be due to the broken update that Apple published on September 24. The iOS 8.0.1 update was meant to include improvements and fixes for the iPhone, but instead it stopped users of the new iPhone from making calls, and disabled the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Have you updated yet? If so which device have you updated and what issues do you face?

Facebook acquires Whatsapp

Facebook is now the legal owner of WhatsApp, following a filing made with the SEC today. This is the final step in a process begun when Facebook announced its intent to acquire the messaging company in February of this year. The Facebook deal passed its final regulatory hurdle when it received EU approval to go ahead with the acquisition of WhatsApp last week.

In the filing, the company details the awarding of 177,760,669 shares of Facebook’s Class A common stock and $4.59 billion to WhatsApp stakeholders, plus 45,941,775 in restricted stock to WhatsApp employees to complete the deal. Koum will join Facebook’s board, and will also match Zuckerberg’s annual base salary of $1, without eligibility for the company’s bonus plan, though he does get a signing bonus of 24,853,468 restricted stock units as incentive for joining. Per the filing, Koum is joining Facebook with no fixed term of employment as part of the arrangement, but all indicators are that he wants to stick around to continue to build WhatsApp as a separate brand under the growing Facebook umbrella.

Will FB and Whatsapp make a combined messenger to take down the to be released Google IM? Let's see.

Xiaomi to launch new product in India tomorrow! (Mi4 suspected!)

Xiaomi has posted a teaser via its official Twitter handle for India, @MiIndiaOfficial, hinting at a new product launch on Wednesday, October 8.

The most anticipated product that Xiaomi could launch on Wednesday could be the company's latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 4. The India launch of the Mi 4 certainly fits in with Xiaomi's announcement that Monday's offer would be last time the Mi 3 would be on sale in India. The company certainly needs a flagship in its India portfolio to make up.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz alongside 3GB of RAM. The smartphone will come in two storage variants 16GB and 64GB. The Mi 4 sports the same 5-inch full-HD display (1080x1920 pixels) found on the Mi 3; although this time the company has used a JDI OGS full lamination display. There is a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera on the Xiaomi Mi 4, with both sporting Sony's stacked CMOS sensors. The smartphone is backed by a 3080mAh Li-ion battery.

Of course, it is possible Xiaomi may launch the Mi Band low-cost fitness tracker, the MiPad tablet, the Mi Box set-top box, or Mi TV. We'll have to wait and see.

Online Attendance System for Government officials launched!

Announced just a few weeks ago, the Indian government's new online biometric attendance system is now online, with nearly 50,000 employees attendance across 147 government organisations (at the time of writing) including the Cabinet Secretariat, and other government bodies like the Central Vigilance Commission and the Planning Commission.

On the website the attendance of employees can be tracked online - this serves as a centralised management system for the government, but it should also increase transparency as anyone can access the site for a broad overview.

On the site, you can see the attendance activity over time, the number of registered employees and the number of employees present today. You can even see the number of active devices, and clicking on any of these tabs takes you to a spreadsheet where you can see a breakdown of the information.

In this way, for example, you can see that the Ministry of External Affairs has 195 devices, and at the time of writing, 159 are active. You can see that eight out of 34 biometric terminals are currently inactive, and that 1,358 MEA employees have marked their attendance today. Click the detail button on the right, and you can see the breakup between the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, South Block and Patiala House offices of the MEA. Clicking detail on this page shows you the device ID, the type of device (tablet or desktop) and even which gate the employee entered the building from.

Further details include the name of the employee, designation, division and the exact time the employee arrived for duty. You can even use the search function on the dashboard to find an individual employee - and his or her email id. That's an incredibly detailed system, and you can use the export button to download the data on your screen to an Excel sheet as well.

The website shows a dashboard you can track this information, but this goes beyond just transparency. Government employees will be able to mark their attendance at any Central Office, which is also useful for tracking movement. This is done using biometric reading devices in the offices, and uses the Aadhaar to verify the data. Each government organisation has to enrol itself for the system to work, and on the dashboard, you can see that of the 49,141 employees registered so far, 32,487 have been verified.

As noted in the FAQ section of the website, the system relies on network connectivity at all times, and for this reason, the government will be ensuring Wi-Fi connectivity on NICNET, and SIM-based connectivity for employees using tablets.

LG will launch its recently-introduced circular smartwatch, the LG G Watch R, in South Korea on October 14. The release dates for other markets are not yet known, but the smartwatch is expected to start rolling out globally before the end of October, as promised soon after launch.

The company has confirmed a KRW 352,000 (roughly Rs. 20,300) price tag for the G Watch R. Bose QC25 Noise Cancelling Headphones

Take a look around any airport lounge in the world and you'll immediately see a set of Bose noise-canceling headphones. They're iconic, and it's because they're good. With the new QuietComfort 25, the first refresh in five years, everything gets just a little bit better.
Bose has made steady but significant improvements since the year 2000, when the company's first noise-canceling cans hit the market. The original QC1s only had a single microphone listening for noise in each ear cup, and required an external pack to hold batteries and electronics. By the time the QC15s came out in 2009, everything was onboard, and the noise-canceling tech had evolved: the headphones listened to the noise outside the earcups, too, and blocked it from ever reaching your 'drums.
Today, the QC15s are a staple because they've got a universally appealing sound, and they're so comfortable that you can wear them for an entire eight-hour flight without feeling pain. There are plenty of other good options, but people keep turning to the Bose headphones for a reason. The headphones are so reliably good that I'd recommend them to anyone in the market.
Given the success of the previous model, it's not surprising that the new QC25s are a pretty conservative play. They're more of a refinement than an overhaul of the successful QC15. Bose tweaked the formula, and freshened up the design, but for the most part the cans remain the same pair that set the standard years ago.
Design
The biggest change is the headband. The QC25's headband now collapses at hinges above each earcup for more compact storage, where the cups previously just folded flat. That headband is also now a smooth arc whereas before there was a subtle bend that helped reduce the discomfort of having a pair of cans clamped onto your head. The straighter line is more attractive, and thankfully Bose hasn't skimped on comfort to get there. You can still wear them for hours and hours. The luxurious puffy leather pad at the crest of the headband has been replaced with a slimmer synthetic cushion, but it's still plenty cozy.
The plastic construction is lightweight and sturdy. You can give the headband a nice twist and it won't snap. The hinge folds smoothly without feeling creaky or flimsy. The frame isn't indestructible like V-Moda's millispec cans, but if you're careful, they should hold up.
The new straighter arc and subtler cushioning is in line with the more contemporary, slim and minimal aesthetic of the QC25s. The cups have ditched the ancillary design lines, and opted for a simple matte finish with a silver logo. Besides the standard black and white models, you spend an additional $100 on a completely customized model, painting nine different parts of the headphones in the colors of your choice. It looks like straight up ColorWare, which I don't find particularly tasteful, but it means there are thousands of different color combinations if you want to express yourself.
In black, though, the headphones are a handsome set that I'd be happy to wear anywhere. In the past, I've avoided Bose products much of the time because I just think the company's trademark surgical gray is old and stodgy looking, a bit like it was pulled from a Windows 3.0 application window. Though the QC25s aren't a huge departure from the old look, they're a positive step in the right direction.
The leather earpads are plush and contribute considerably to the headphones' comfort. Still, in the few weeks I tested these headphones, the cushions popped off two times, which shouldn't ever unintentionally happen. It's not just annoying: You run the risk of losing a cup and having to pay $40 for a replacement set. I never had this problem with the QC15s, and neither did a few people I asked. Very odd.
On a positive note I quite like that the cloth protecting the drivers inside the earcups is no labeled "L" and "R" so you quickly know which way to put the headphones on.
Finally, the QC25s ditch the proprietary cable Bose used on the QC15s for a simple 3.5mm-2.5mm cable you can buy from Bose or anyone else.
I was able to grab the cable out of one of my other headphones and use it with the QC25s, no problem. That could come in handy someday.
Using it
To use the QC25s, you can simply take them out of the box, plug them into a source of your choice, press play and let the good times roll. That's actually a pretty big deal: For the very first time, Bose's noise-canceling headphones work without batteries. Sure, the QC25s don't actually cancel noise that way, and they don't sound particularly amazing, but when your QC15s were dead they didn't work at all. Imagine getting on a plane and realizing your battery is dead. You're just screwed. No music.
And when you do have electricity handy, a single AAA battery powers the headphones' noise-canceling guts for more than 30 hours. At the office, I was able to use the headphones for an entire week on a single battery, if I remembered to turn them off when I wasn't using them.
Still, using replaceable battery power in an era where almost every other gadget you own charges by USB feels a bit regressive. More so when you look to the future. In a few years it might be the only thing you own in the world that takes old alkaline cells. But "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," I suppose, given that you can still buy AAA batteries on practically every street corner in the world.
The noise-cancellation on the headphones is really excellent, as it was with the QC15s. The cans put you in a total fog of unawareness to the world around you. I should note that Bose actually completely overhauled the interior guts of the headphones so that all of the digital circuitry is on a single proprietary chip as opposed to lots of different components. According to the company, the new guts make the noise-canceling work much better and more consistently. For me, the bottom line is that it worked before and it still works now. Standing on a subway platform and listening to tunes, you can't hear the sound of a roaring train at all.
As with the QC15s, the noise-cancellation is impressive because it has so little effect on your music. Whereas the sound quality of headphones could be adversely affected by the noise-canceling electronics, Bose manages to make a solid sound set of cans. The QC25s have a typical clear, balanced Bose sound that a lot of people find appealing. Personally I prefer a slightly warmer, fuller sound, but the truth is that sterile as I find the QC25s, it's a winning sound signature that's loved by loads of people.
Finally, a note on newfangled features like Bluetooth and apps. The world of headphones has changed considerably over the last couple of years, with companies like Samsung and Parrot increasingly adding both Bluetooth connectivity and app connected features to their noise-canceling cans. The thinking seems to be that if you've got power, there's no reason not to juice a larger feature set. But it seems Bose is completely uninterested in them.
Frankly, you can't use Bluetooth on planes, and it doesn't bother me to use a cable with my headphones because I find Bluetooth too unreliable and spotty to really be worth it. However, Bluetooth is what enables features like on-the-fly sound customization with an app. I just don't know that I've heard anything compelling enough to make it worth my while yet.
Like
Great noise canceling. Super comfortable.
No Like
Not designed to travel without their case. The earpads fall off far too easily.
Should I buy it
If you need noise canceling headphones, the Bose QC25 cans are a safe bet. I'm not always fond of the wisdom of crowds when it comes to gadgets, but Bose has nailed this product, and if you want something comfortable that sounds good, it's OK to follow the herd here. The $300 price tag for the basic set is competitive, and in fact, cheaper than some competitors.
The QC25s are not the only option, of course, and I'm personally very fond of the Audio-Technica QuietPoint line. What's more, I'm looking forward to hearing new products like the newly announced Parrot Zik 2, which incorporate customizable digital signal processing, giving you more control over the tuning of the headphones.
As for whether you should upgrade: what shape are your old QCs in? The only really groundbreaking new feature of the QC25 is the ability to work without batteries. If the price is right you might be better off with the QC15 on sale. Or maybe wait a year and see how the headphone industry evolves, period.

Windows 10 feature glances

Microsoft recently unveiled their new operating system Windows 10 claiming "great advantages in technology" to make up for the misplaced Windows 9.
Here are some glances at the new features of this OS-

  • The Start menu returns!

Microsoft has been demonstrating the new Start menu for quite some time, but the company has finally made it official with Windows 10.

The menu features a search bar and customisable space for pinning app shortcuts and live tiles. It looks very similar to the traditional Start menu that Microsoft discontinued with the Windows 8. On non-touch devices, it will replace the Start screen.

  • All apps open in windows. Finally!
Modern UI apps from the Windows Store now also open in the same format that desktop apps do and can be resized and moved around.

  • Quadrant Layout-
Users can now have up to four apps snapped on the same screen with what Microsoft calls a new quadrant layout.
Windows 10 will also show other apps and programmes running for additional snapping and will make smart suggestions on filling available screen space with other open apps.

  • Multiple desktops natively-

With Windows 10, users can create virtual desktops for different purposes and projects and switch between desktops and pick up where they left on each desktop, similar to OS X's Spaces.
There is a new task view that displays all open windows and desktops. This is also very similar to the Expose feature of Apple's OS X.

  • One Windows version across devices (Finally)-
Freedom from Windows RT versions and whatnot, Windows finally runs on all devices across form factors, including phones, tablets, 2-in-1s and PCs.
The OS will come with a feature called Continuum which will detect when you remove a keyboard from a 2-in-1 and switch to a touch-optimized UI with big tiles. It will also have a universal app marketplace.
  • Universal search-
The new version of Windows has a search feature akin to Spotlight and now searches web pages along with the usual apps, settings and files.

  • New command prompt-
Windows command prompt finally supports Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, nuff said.

That's all for now folks! Do comment and ask questions :-)

Samsung Galaxy S5 running Android L spotted!

Android L is coming soon! A new video has just popped up showing Google's next update running on a Samsung Galaxy S5.

A source passed on an early build of Android L, known as LRW58J, which is used for testing how well Android L works on the S5.

As is usual with early builds of operating systems, there are a number of bugs and performance issues that plague the version of Android L that sammobile has got its hands on.

However, the video still gives us a rough idea of the new features of Android L, including new heads-up notifications for incoming calls, messages and low battery warning without interrupting the current activity being performed on the phone.

Google is also revamping the user interface of Android L, naming the new look Material Design. As the early build of Android L in the video is for Samsung devices, Samsung's own interface overlay TouchWiz has been applied.

This gives us an interesting hint at how manufacturers who apply their own interfaces to Android will react to Google's new design.

From the video it looks like Samsung has redesigned its own system apps such as Dialer and Messages, to fit in with Google's Material Design guidelines.

The iPhone 6 is out to eat your hair!

A 9to5Mac community post reveals that iPhone 6 customers are complaining on social media that their new phones keep ripping out chunks of their hair when they hold the phone up to their ear to take a call.

Twitter users claim that the seam between the glass screen and aluminium back of the iPhone 6 is to blame, and it's that gap that their hair is getting caught in.

Wonder if the Note with it's gap does the same.

iPhone 6 Plus Listed on Airtel Website!

Bharti Airtel, has listed the iPhone 6 Plus without pricing on its official site.

The company lists the smartphone with a 'coming soon' tag and has all three storage variants of the handset available in Gold, Silver, and Space Grey colours. Notably, Airtel does not list the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 Plus listing was first spotted by TelecomTalk.

Apple is widely expected to launch the new bigger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India this month, on October 17. Ahead of any official announcement regarding the India launch of the new iPhones, the smartphone made its way through grey market. Few vendors via online retailers are offering the iPhone 6 at a starting price of Rs. 56,000.

It's worth noting that Apple had been going back-and-forth on the India launch date of the iPhone 6. On the day of global unveiling, September 9, the company had listed on its website that the iPhone 6 would be available in India on September 26. However, the company soon after changed the launch day to October 17 on the Apple India website.

The iPhone 6 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 750x1334 pixels offering a pixel density of 326ppi. The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand comes with a 5.5-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401ppi.

Both the new iPhone models pack the latest Apple A8 processor with 64-bit architecture and M8 second-generation motion coprocessor. Both will be available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage versions.

Apple has included an 8-megapixel iSight camera with phase-detection autofocus, while there is a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera onboard. Other features included in both the iPhones are Touch ID home button fingerprint sensor, barometer, 3-axis gyro, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and LTE.

Micromax to Launch CyanogenMod-Based Smartphone This Year

A recent report claims Cyanogen has a deal with Indian mobile manufacturer Micromax to release a CyanogenMod-powered handset as early as the end of the year. The report notably also claimed that Cyanogen had recently turned down a Google buyout offer made by SVP of Android, Sundar Pichai.

The Information report (via Android Police) claims Cyanogen CEO Kirt McMaster recently told shareholders of the spurned Google deal, saying the company was more focused on obtaining its third round of funding that took it to a $1 billion valuation - "despite barely generating any revenue."

The reported deal with Micromax for launching a CyanogenMod-powered handset in India does seem to be in-line with the Palo Alto and Seattle-based company's obvious intentions to start making some money.

The report claims the release date of the CyanogenMod Micromax handset is still uncertain.

HTC Desire Eye leaked specs!

Last week, we heard from two relatively good sources – @upleaks and @LlabTooFeR – that the Eye (codename) is a selfie-centric version of the One (M8).Now @upleaks is muddying the waters – or clearing them, depending on how you look at it – with a report claiming the Eye is actually a Desire device. That, or there actually two Eye devices coming.

Here’s another pic allegedly showing this device:
htc desire eye (2)

If this Desire Eye is real, its specifications are a notch above what we typically get from devices in the Desire line, and they’re even comparable to the flagship One (M8) and Butterfly 2.

The most interesting aspect is the presence of 13MP cameras on the front and the back of the device, a setup that we haven’t seen before on mainstream devices. The front facing camera will sport a dual-LED flash, just like the rear camera, which should make for some great self-portraits. The front camera will feature a wide-angle f 2.0 lens as well, to capture as much of the scene as possible.

The design of the Desire Eye resembles a bit the Desire 820, with its simple lines, plastic build, and two-color scheme. Interestingly, the device will be water resistant, a feature we don’t see on many HTCs.

HTC seemingly wants to market the Desire Eye as the “ultimate selfie phone,” but the Taiwanese company will reportedly bring more “selfie-specialized” functions to the rest of its roster, as well, including: One (M8), Butterfly 2, One (E8), and One Mini 2. These functions should land before the Android L update, according to @upleaks.

Whether it’s from the One family or the Desire family, the Eye will become official on October 8 at HTC’s Double Exposure event, alongside the Re Camera action camera.

Moto 360 now on sale through Flipkart for Rs. 17,999

One of the best Android Wear smartwatch, the Moto 360 has gone on sale through Flipkart today. The retail price is Rs. 17,999, and at the time of writing it’s still in stock!

However, Flipkart is currently only listing the Grey Leather strap option for the smartwatch. There’s no official word on whether the Black Leather and Steel strap options will be made available in the future, so for now Grey is the only choice, unless you want to swap out the strap yourself.

The Moto 360 has a circular 1.56-inch LCD display with a resolution of 320×290, a Texas Instruments OMAP 3 processor, 320 mAh battery, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage.

As Flipkart has exclusivity over Motorola sales in India, stock might not last that long. Fortunately, another batch of Moto 360’s will be available in two weeks, should the current stock run dry.

BlackBerry Passport: First Impressions

At the launch of the BlackBerry Passport on Monday, we got to spend a little time with the device and formed some early impressions about the device. The BlackBerry Passport will go on sale at retail from October 10 at Rs. 49,990, but at the launch event, the company announced that the handset will be available for pre-order on Amazon.in and at BlackBerry Exclusive Stores from Monday.

Buyers who pre-order the phone will also get a Rs. 5,000 gift voucher on Amazon.in which can be used towards any purchases, and also 5,000 frequent flyer miles from Jet Airways.

The price tag seems pretty steep, but it competes directly with the top flagships of other well established brands, a point BlackBerry India Managing Director Sunil Lalvani was quick to make at the launch event. But does this unusual phone from BlackBerry measure up to the competition?

The first thing that you'll notice when you see the BlackBerry Passport is its massive size. The phone has a 4.5-inch display, which sounds small, but due to the square display the display seems larger. At over 3.5 inches wide, the phone is also wider than much larger phones. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which has a 5.7-inch display, is 3.1-inches wide.

The build quality of the phone is extremely good. It felt solid but not heavy and the keyboard felt great. The specifications of the phone are also in line with other top end devices as well. The screen is running at a resolution of 1440X1440 pixels, and there's a 13-megapixel camera that seemed to be pretty good though a little slow to focus. A 2.2GHz processor and 3GB of RAM, along with 32GB of storage round out a pretty good device, on paper.

The actual experience of using the phone was a little awkward thanks to its size, and even for a regular BlackBerry user, the new keyboard comes with a learning curve. The BlackBerry World app store also remains pretty limited, although the Amazon Appstore does widen the net. Not all Android apps (notably Google's like Maps) are available on Amazon though, which could still end up being a deal-breaker for many.

Add to that the reputation BlackBerry has gained for dropping prices in short order - something the company vehemently denied on Monday - and buying the Passport at its launch price may sound like a bad idea to many.

Stay tuned for a detailed review of the BlackBerry Passport on Horn Ok Tech.

Nokia's Here Heads Up Display (SUPER COOL)

Nokia first trotted out its Here Auto connected car platform just over a year ago, and at this week's Paris Motor Show, the company is showing off the latest developments. In order to properly equip the rise in heads-up display tech, Here Auto now shows its info in more places around on the dash. In addition to the main display between the driver and passenger, navigation details and more can be beamed to a HUD or under the steering wheel. The central cluster's route data is "context aware," so when you're low on fuel, it'll show gas stations along the way. During the drive, passengers can employ smartphone and tablet apps to examine the trip and make the most of stops. If a nearby national park is selected, the driver can okay (or reject) the detour and directions get automatically updated. And with a new SDK, auto makers can customize Nokia's system as needed, adding in of CarPlay, Google Auto and more.

LG L Fino With Android 4.4 KitKat, Quad-Core SoC Launched at Rs. 14,500

LG, soon after revealing price for the LG L Bello and G3 Stylus in the Indian market, has now launched the L Fino at Rs. 14,500.
The new LG L Fino, a smartphone that was announced alongside the L Bello in August, has been listed on the company's India site with pricing. There is no official word on the availability details of the L Fino; though, we expect that the company will announce the availability of the smartphone in coming days. Earlier this week, the LG L Bello was officially listed at Rs. 18,500, and the G3 Stylus at Rs. 21,500. All three smartphones are available to purchase via various e-commerce sites however.

The company had confirmed the global roll-out of LG L Fino in September, starting with Brazil and then followed by other countries - Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

While globally announcing the L Fino, the company had stressed that the smartphone is targeted at emerging 3G markets.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat-based LG L Fino comes with a UX derived from the LG G3. Some of the highlights of the G3-derived UX skin include Touch and Shoot feature that clicks images by tapping anywhere on the display to focus and shoot in one single step; Gesture Shot in the camera allows users to open and close a hand in front of the lens to start a three-second countdown for the shutter, and Front Camera Light, which helps clicking images in self-portrait mode.

Other features include Knock Code, which was first introduced on the LG G2 that allows users to unlock the phone by tapping a personalised 'knock' pattern on the display. The new LG L Fino also support the new QuickCircle cases that were launched alongside the flagship G3 (Review | Pictures).

The smartphone comes with dual-SIM (Micro-SIM) support. In terms of specifications, the LG L Fino comes with a 4.5-inch WVGA (480x800 pixels) IPS display offering a pixel density of 207ppi; a 1.2GHz quad-core processor; 1GB of RAM; 4GB of inbuilt storage with expandability via microSD card (up to 32GB); an 8-megapixel rear camera; a 0.3-megapixel front camera; a 1900mAh battery, and 3G support.

The LG L Fino measures 127.5x67.9x11.9mm and will come in White, Black, Gold, Red, Green colour variants with availability that will vary by market.

Tesco enters the tablet market!

Tesco Hudl

A popular supermarket chain isn't the first place you'd expect to find an own-brand tablet, but with its low price and a prime spot next to the beans, Tesco's Hudl has sold over 750,000 units since launch. While plans to also enter the smartphone racket have been put on hold, today Tesco's spilled all the details on its second-gen slate: the Hudl2.

The first thing you'll notice is that Tesco has stayed with what works. The Hudl2 shares a similar design with its predecessor, but is a little bit bigger. However, the bezels are vastly smaller, giving it a more premium look. It comes with a toughened 8.3-inch Full HD touchscreen, and a thinner chassis that ships in a variety of eight different colours: black, blue, purple, red, aqua, pink, orange and white.

Tesco's Hudl2

Like the original tablet, Tesco's Hudl2 undercuts many of its rivals at £129, and you can also bring that cost down by trading in some of your Clubcard points. While the device is being unveiled today, you'll have to wait until October 9th to get your hands on it (although pre-orders will open the day before). Inside, there's a 1.83GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor (which Tesco says makes it three times faster than the original) and 2GB of RAM, stock Android 4.4 KitKat, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front facer, Dolby-optimised rear-facing speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi, 16GB of internal storage (with a microSD slot taking it up to 48GB) and according to Tesco, a battery that'll last around 8 hours on a full charge.

Recognizing that customers are buying Hudls for their children, Tesco has included a new range of child-safety tools. When they first turn on the tablet, parents will be asked to set up features that can block sensitive content or restrict the amount of time that a child plays on the Hudl 2, to the point where it'll turn itself off when it's time to go to sleep. App access can be locked down in up to seven profiles, protecting young eyes from the darker downloads on the Play Store.

Tesco is also ramping up the number of accessories it offers with its tablet. This year, Tesco is offering up to 64 tablet and case colour combinations for the Hudl2, including the wonderfully-named Perky Purple & Red and Dreamy White & Bluespotted cases, as well as coloured on-ear and in-ear headphones, screen protectors and stylii.

You'll be able to turn every £5 of Clubcard vouchers into £10 towards the hudl2 and its accessories, bringing the price down to just £65. That'll make it a much more attractive proposition when you're traversing the aisles during your weekly shop. Tesco will also continue to sell the original Hudl for £99, but the company says when stock is gone, it's gone.

Vertu Aster

Vertu’s handmade smartphones feature natural, exotic, high-end materials, and have high-end price tags to match - this summer’s Signature Touch model came in at £6,750. Compared to that, the new Aster seems downright affordable.

Starting at £4,200, the Vertu Aster comes in seven highly distinctive styles, each wrapped in titanium along with calf leather, sea snake skin, or ostrich skin depending on the model.
From Tangerine Karung to Cognac Ostrich, each makes a strong impression.

The Android 4.4 KitKat-toting devices are solidly specced, as well, with a 4.7in 1080p display covered in sapphire crystal, plus a quad-core 2.3Ghz Snapdragon 801 processor, a 13MP back camera, 64GB of internal storage, and a 2275mAh battery. It also has Qi wireless charging and wide LTE support.

And like Vertu's other devices, that bulging price tag comes with less obvious perks, as well, such as six months of its Classic Concierge service for priority bookings and club access, VIP sports packages, and entry to exclusive private events.
In other words, you’re not simply buying a phone, but rather making a lifestyle choice. And if you can afford the phone, you’re probably already accustomed to that lifestyle. So enjoy it .

Amazon India to start selling packaged food and beverages in India: Report

Coke Zero went up for preorders exclusively on Amazon India last month, but seems like the beverage was not a one off deal. The e-commerce site is now said to be planning on selling packaged food and beverages starting later this month, Economic Times reports.

The publication claims that Amazon India will start selling “about 100 gourmet products and will offer a wider assortment of products in the coming months.” Amazon is said to be already in talks with the likes of Kelloggs and Cornitos, and Olympia Industries, the Coke Zero seller, too has reportedly started stocking packaged foods in Amazon’s Manesar warehouse.

There is currently no word on if the e-commerce giant plans on selling fresh food like fruits and vegetables. But the publication cites a source who claims that the company could eventually introduce something on the lines of AmazonFresh in India.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced that it would be pooling in $2 billion into its Indian operations. The investment will be used to expand the operations and add more categories as well. Jeff Bezos, who is on a visit to India, revealed that Amazon India had sold $1 billion (Rs 6,100 crore) worth of products in a year.

Yotaphone Dual-Screen smartphone Set to Launch in India via Flipkart!

Good News fellow techies!
It seems Yota Devices, the Russian company popular for its dual-display YotaPhone, is all set to launch its first device in India, if a newsletter from Flipkart is to be believed.
As of now, there is no word about the exact launch day or pricing details about the YotaPhone expected to launch in India, or even which model. Yota Devices have launched two smartphones thus far. The first generation YotaPhone was unveiled at CES last year while started shipping only by December 2013. The company upgraded its original dual-screen smartphone at MWC with the next-generation YotaPhone.

The company at the launch had claimed that the new YotaPhone (2014) is more 'intuitive and interactive', with new hardware and software features, than its predecessor. One of the biggest upgrades in the new device is the full-touch control for its always-on E-ink display, something missing in previous generation device. The new YotaPhone will launch Europe in late 2014, and thereafter in 2015 make its way globally. For now, no pricing details have been given.

The YotaPhone (2014) comes with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and features a 4.7-inch E-ink display. The smartphone is Android-based, and as for version, Yota Devices had only said 'latest' version at the time of launch. The front display, a 5-inch AMOLED offering, bears a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels, with a pixel density of 442ppi. The next-generation YotaPhone is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor with an Adreno 330 GPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM. It includes 32GB of built-in storage (no details about microSD card slot) and sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash alongside a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset measures 8.9mm thin and weighs 140 grams. It supports nano-SIM, 2550mAh battery and comes with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB 3.0, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/ A-GPS and Glonass, and NFC connectivity options.

Popcorn Time Finally Comes To iOS :-)

Popcorn Time, the so-called Netflix for pirates,is now on iOS. It’s never been easier to watch pirated movies and TV shows on the iPhone or Android device. Is it illegal? Not really. Shady and not exactly ethical? Sure.

Not surprisingly, Apple didn’t give the official nod to this app so Popcorn Time cannot be found in the App Store. That said, it’s still easy to obtain and install the needed software as long as you’re willing to jailbreak your iOS device.

The app works like its desktop counterparts–It provides an easy way to stream pirated content. Just click on a movie to start streaming it to your iPad or iPhone. It’s that simple.
The app is free and there isn’t a monthly fee.Because, you know, piracy. The team is already working on incorporating an integrated VPN service and Chromecast and Airplay support, but the current plan includes rolling out those features in upcoming releases.

Project Ara Release Date and Hot-Swapping support

Hello fellow techies!

Project Ara, the most revolutionary handset to be released by Google shows some promising features.

For those of you who aren't aware, Project Ara is Google's take at a fully customisable device. Think of a PC in which you can swap memory, Processor etc. as soon as they get outdated.

The Project Ara release date has been confirmed to an early 2015 release date, confirmed by Phonebloks, which revealed the project is on track in terms of timeline. A keynote (linked below) too has been released showing some of the features of the device. The first fully-functional Project Ara prototype will be showcased in December at the 2nd Project Ara Developer Conference alongside the new Project Ara MDK. Let's hope this one manages to boot and work :-P

When Project Ara is released in early 2015, it will run a modified version of Android L that has been developed in collaboration with the non-profit Linaro. The benefits of this modified version of Android L is the Project Ara device will be hotswappable. That means that every module of the Project Ara phone, aside from the CPU and display, can be switched out and changed without turning the phone off.The ability to hot swap the Project Ara device is so sophisticated that it's possible to change the modules even if you are in the middle of a phone call or texting.

The Project Ara modules will be sold on a new online store, specifically for Project Ara and this store will resemble the Google Play Store. For those of us early adopters who are eager to get our hands on a Project Ara device and to try building our own modular smartphone, all of this is good news. What are your views? Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Expected to be Released Before Diwali in India!

According to International Business Times, the Galaxy Note 4 is slated for a Diwali release.

Samsung is slated to launch during the course of the next two weeks in India, which means a pre-Diwali release is imminent.

The high-end Galaxy Note 4 should cost approximately Rs 50,000 (£500) in India. An unlocked version of the smartphone costs $826 in the US.

Note 4 units reportedly have design flaws! #GAPgate begins!

Just after the launch of the Note 4 in China and South Korea for 5,199 RMB on Friday a new design flaw in the Note 4 emerged.

According to South Korean publication IT Today, some Galaxy Note 4 users have noticed a space between the phone’s frame and the display panel, both on the top/bottom or on the sides, posting images with business cards inserted in those gaps. The report also says that two pieces of A4 paper fit inside the gaps. Some warned the gap would collect dirt and might even allow fluid into the device.

Samsung on Wednesday rejected claims that its new smartphone had a defect, after some customers posted pictures of a gap between the frame and display panel. Samsung insisted the gap was a natural part of design that "does not impact the functionality or quality" of the phone.A company spokesman added that the model had passed rigorous tests for dirt protection and water resistance.

Whether or not it is a true issue only time (and tests!) can tell. Do leave us your valuable comments below!
